Waves - a 3-part tool to create new areas using existing worlds and tilesets
Waves is a tool that uses a wave collapse approach to create new areas for old video games. It was primarily tested on Link's Awakening DX for the GameBoy color. Waves uses the following three steps to generate worlds:
- Extract individual tiles from an existing tileset.
- Generate rules by mapping extracted tiles to the overworld.
- Generate a new world using the tiles and rules from step 1 and 2 and the wave collapse algorithm.
The quality of generated worlds will vary based on tiles and rules.
